A solid rotating target is a candidate for use in the proposed Spallation Neutron Source second target station. The proposed target is based on water-cooled, tantalum clad tungsten blocks similar to those used successfully in other accelerator target facilities. A life of up to 10 years and efficient maintenance of the active support systems are the primary advantages over the alternative flowing mercury target configuration. By suspending the rotating target disk from a 3.5 meter long shaft; all the active drive, seal and monitoring components can be removed from the high-radiation zone thus allowing for relatively rapid hands-on repair or replacement. This is coupled with hands-on access to the water cooling system after a decay period of a few days. Maintenance of the second target station shutters, proton beam window and core vessel inserts will be performed in a manner similar to the procedures used in the first target station. Handling of the rotating target will however require a significantly different approach. This paper describes the evaluation of possible target configurations, handling techniques and building layouts.

A system for electric wheel chair control with human eyes is proposed. Commercially available Web camera mounted on Head Mounted Display: HMD of which user wears is used to capture moving pictures of users' face. Computer mounted on the electric chair process the captured imagery data, detecting and tracking of user's eye, estimating line of sight vector and actuate electric wheel chair in the designated directions pointed by human eye. One of the keys of the proposed system is detection and tracking of eye movement so that this paper deals with the experimental results from the eyeball rotation angle estimation accuracy with the acquired eye and its surrounding image. Through the experiments almost 99% success rate was confirmed in terms of matching accuracy the electric wheel chair movement with the desired directions user intended to move.

A modified TLD tracking algorithm based on fusion of color model and ORB feature is proposed for the poor tracking performance of TLD algorithm for rotating target. The algorithm uses a feature fusion tracking algorithm instead of the optical flow method in the TLD tracking module, updating target tracking window and target template in the tracking module to improve the target tracking capability of rotating target, and compare the Bhattacharyya coefficient of the target model and the candidate model of with threshold to determine whether the tracking is failure or success, the detection module will reinitialize tracking if the tracking module failure. The experimental results show that, compared with the original TLD tracking algorithm, the improved algorithm could improve the ability of the rotating target tracking, and can meet the real-time requirements.

Sputter compartments for rotatable targets in the large area coating will increase their share due to the higher utilization of the rotatable target type. In addition, ceramic rotatables hold the advantage of easier process control compared to the reactive magnetron sputtering of metallic targets. However, the production of ceramic rotatable targets is much more complicated. Currently, only thermally sprayed TiOx-targets are commonly used for industrial scale large area glass coating. The application of the thermal spraying technique is limited. On one hand only materials with a melting point are sprayable. On the other hand, the thickness of the target material is limited because of the residual stress in such brittle, thermally sprayed coatings. Beside the manufacturing process of ceramic tube segments, another key topic is the joining of these segments with a common steel backing tube. The development must meet requirements such as sufficient electrical and thermal conductivity, joining durability and low-cost design.
